[BUG] An empty new session appears every time a new task is started by pressing ENTER on the initial message

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

An empty new session appears every time a new task is started by pressing ENTER on the initial message. The empty new session gets focused, which is a problem.

It did not happen in the previous version and before.

What Should Happen?

Please revert this misfeature. If you want to create a new session, that's okay, but do not select it as current one. It is confusing and forces me to select the just started session again, a waste of time and effort, needless stress and friction.

Error Messages/Logs

None

Steps to Reproduce

  • Enter any new task into Claude Code.
  • Press ENTER, the task starts to be processed.
  • A new session appears at the top and gets selected.
  • The task which you have just started loses focus and the new empty session is focused instead.
  • You stare at an empty chat clueless about where your work has just gone...
