Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing requests and this feature hasn't been requested yet
  • [x] This is a single feature request (not multiple features)

Problem Statement

I don't like that Claude sprays files all over my home dir. I would like ALL of the Claude files to be in ~/.claude or have some configuration options as to where all the files go.

Claude suggested that I make this feature request...

It's a hardcoded design decision in Claude Code — the app always writes ~/.claude.json to the home directory root, and there's no configuration option to change that path. Got it. You may want to file a feature request with Anthropic at https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code/issues to ask for a configurable config path.

Proposed Solution

a configurable config path

Alternative Solutions

Not sure there are any other than this.

Priority

Medium - Would be very helpful

Feature Category

Configuration and settings

Use Case Example

I use Claude in Zed.
It writes ~/.claude & ~/.claude.json & ... & .... &....

Additional Context

That's it.

Thanks!

This is an excellent FR form!
