I am also experiencing the same problem repeatedly.
Same issue repeatedly.
Claude Code has become almost unusable.
The error occurs even after the "/clear" command when I ask it to correct an issue.
Claude Code v0.2.29 on Ubuntu 24.04.01 LTS running in a Windows 11 WSL instance.

Our API was having some problems earlier today that may have caused this. The issue should no longer be occurring.
Hmm, APIs are expected to have intermittent issues and might not always be available. The tool should handle this gracefully (retry/backoff) and inform the user of next steps if it cannot recover.
+1 - I've opened https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code/issues/583 to track the retry/backoff request.
