Feature Request: Auto-compact warning Hook

Resolved 💬 5 comments Opened Jul 2, 2025 by mikehern Closed Jan 6, 2026

Pain point: when users receive the auto-compact warning, we resort to a variety of actions to keep the context fresh. (I am guessing any telemetry might be showing this too over time.)

I suspect folks are getting savvier about the fact quality goes down, as the context window fills up. Unless there are built-in features on the roadmap for better context management, I think giving users the freedom to manage their context more, in whatever way they choose, automatically is a win.

Why not let users decide if they want to git stash, update documents with their progress, summarize the CC conversation, or maybe even shape and dump their context in a way that might be more efficient than what auto-compact does?

Plus if the community comes up with any great solutions to handle context management, it gives inspiration on ways to improve the product itself.
