[BUG] In-conversation text search (Cmd+F) does not find Japanese text

Resolved 💬 2 comments Opened Feb 22, 2026 by obott9 Closed Mar 23, 2026

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

The in-conversation text search bar (Cmd+F) stops working after the first search. The initial search finds results correctly, but changing the search term and pressing Enter for a second search returns no results, even though matching text is visible in the conversation.

What Should Happen?

The search should find and highlight all occurrences of the Japanese text in the conversation.

Error Messages/Logs

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Start a Claude Code desktop app session on macOS
  2. Have a conversation that contains Japanese text (e.g., "バグ")
  3. Open the search bar (Cmd+F)
  4. Type a search term and press Enter — first search works
  5. Change the search term to different Japanese text and press Enter
  6. Second search returns no results despite visible matches in the conversation
