Claude Desktop upgrade erases Claude Code local chat history every time

Bug Description

Every time Claude Desktop is updated to a new version, all local chat history in Claude Code is lost. This happens consistently on every upgrade, not just occasionally.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Use Claude Code and accumulate chat history
2. Update Claude Desktop to a newer version
3. Open Claude Code again
4. All previous chat history is gone

Expected Behavior

Chat history should persist across Claude Desktop version upgrades. Local conversation data should not be tied to a specific application version.

Actual Behavior

All local chat history is wiped on every Claude Desktop upgrade.

Impact

• Loss of valuable conversation context and decisions made during development sessions
• Time spent re-establishing context is wasted
• This is a data loss bug that directly impacts productivity and user trust
