[BUG] Extreme memory usage when opening Claude panel in split view in VS Code on Kubuntu/Linux
Resolved 💬 3 comments Opened Jan 30, 2026 by Vitalii-Kh95 Closed Feb 3, 2026
Preflight Checklist
- [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
- [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
- [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code
What's Wrong?
In the middle of the work this happened. VS Code version 1.108.2 fresh version of claude extension. Now I can't use the extension. Claude in terminal works alright though.
What Should Happen?
I should have reasonable memory usage...
Error Messages/Logs
According to claude, there's nothing sus in the logs (these are the ones it cheked: "~/.claude/debug/*.txt") on the moment error happened
Steps to Reproduce
Nothing in particular. It happened after claude ended answering my question and made some edits to the code. But the culprit seem to be the view I open via extension button (up-right corner): when I open it, chromium uses all memory.
Claude Model
