What's Wrong?

No ANTHROPIC_API_KEY environment variable set

Problem:
When selecting "Claude account with subscription" during login, the browser opens to a page that only shows "Upgrade to Max or Pro" button. There is no login or sign-in option anywhere on the page. Cannot authenticate despite having an active Max subscription.
Steps tried (none worked):

/logout
claude update
Restart terminal
Clear browser cache and cookies for claude.ai
Tried incognito/private browser window
Verified no other Claude accounts signed in
Verified same email as Max subscription
Contacted support — received only automated responses repeating the same steps

Notes:
Support acknowledged this matches the January 22nd authentication incident that was marked as "resolved" — but the problem clearly persists.
I am paying $140/month for Max and cannot use Claude Code because the OAuth flow is broken. In 1969 we put men on the moon with less computing power than a cell phone. In 2026, Anthropic cannot make a login page work on Windows.
Please fix this.

What Should Happen?

Expected behavior:
When selecting "Claude account with subscription" and the browser opens, I should see a login/sign-in option where I can enter my email and authenticate with my existing Max subscription. After authentication, Claude Code should recognize my Max plan and allow me to use the tool.

Open terminal (PowerShell or CMD)
Run claude
Select theme (Dark mode)
Select "1. Claude account with subscription - Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise"
Browser opens to a page showing only "Upgrade to Max or Pro" button
No login option exists on this page
Cannot proceed with authentication

No code or files involved — this is a fresh install attempting first-time authentication.

Model:
N/A — cannot run /model because authentication fails before reaching the Claude Code interface. The login flow breaks before any model can be selected.
