[BUG]

Resolved 💬 3 comments Opened Jan 20, 2026 by kesteinbakk Closed Jan 20, 2026

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

In vs code [windows in wsl: ubuntu mode]:

Opening new tab no longer auto-focuses input (worked before some update I think)
claude-vscode.focus command doesn't focus input, just switches to another Claude tab
No keyboard-only way to focus input field currently, except several tabs.

What Should Happen?

When opening a new claude pane/tab the input should have auto focus, ready for user to write instructions.

Steps to Reproduce

Click orange claude splash/star icon to open a new window or select claude code: open new tab from command palette. No cursor blinking in input.

Select 'claude code: Focus input`. Either nothing happens or switches to another claude tab, but no input selected.
