How to pass an API key in that's not in the Enviornment Variables?

I want to use claude code in a VM without setting the anthropic api key enviornment variable or running /login.
What's the best option for me to do this through some sort of proxy or somehting so that I can use claude code in the VM without having my key in the environment variables?
