[Bug] Claude Desktop: Blank workspace after .worktrees file deletion, session fails to initialize
Resolved 💬 5 comments Opened Jan 7, 2026 by linuswetzig Closed Feb 21, 2026
Bug Description
Issue: Claude Desktop shows blank screen with "failed to load session" error after accidentally deleting a .worktrees file from Documents folder yesterday. CLI version works perfectly.
Steps taken:
- Complete reinstall of Claude Desktop
- Clear Cache and Restart + Reset App Data
- Authentication reset (logout, removed auth.json, re-authenticated)
- Git worktrees cleanup and local data removal
Current state: Desktop app loads but shows completely blank workspace area in CLI tab. Authentication appears successful but session won't initialize.
System: macOS 26.2 (25C56)
Claude Desktop version: Claude 1.0.2768 (21341c) 2026-01-05T18:21:10.000Z
The deleted .worktrees file seems to have corrupted workspace configuration that survives reinstalls.
