It would be really nice if Claude could help the user on how to connect to - and read from - a database. It seems to be doable with mcp, but when I ask it, it says that it’s not supported.
To mitigate the issue, I saved all schemas to a file and put told Claude to use that. But after I have run /compact, Claude forgets this, even if I told it to save it to the file created on /init. It would be nice to have something like “always remember in every prompt”

Which database are you using, and how do you normally interact with it? (CLI? API?)
The solution is connected to a large MSSQL database with 100+ tables. I normally interact via CLI / Microsoft SQL Management Studio.
did you try just asking claude to run the commands you would normally run? I use this with
bq(CLI BigQuery client) and it works great.I got I working with mcp and it works great. But it would have been nice if Claude Code had helped me when asked :-)
