Problem Statement

Feature Request: Real-Time Token/Usage Indicator for Claude Code CLI

Overview

I'd like to request a persistent real-time visual indicator (similar to the mana circle
in Diablo 2) displayed in the bottom-right corner of terminal/IDE windows while using
Claude Code. This would show my current token usage and remaining context budget in
real-time.

Motivation

  • Awareness: Better understanding of how much context I'm consuming across my entire

session

  • Decision-making: Visual feedback helps me decide when to wrap up tasks or create

summaries before context becomes constrained

  • Transparency: Clear view of my Claude Code usage throughout the day across multiple

projects

  • User experience: Gamification aspect makes long work sessions more engaging and gives

immediate feedback on resource consumption

Desired Behavior

The indicator should:

  • Display as a circular or ring-shaped indicator in the bottom-right corner (like Diablo

2's mana circle)

  • Update in real-time as tokens are consumed
  • Show:
  • Fill percentage: Visual representation of tokens used vs. total budget
  • Numerical display: Current token count and/or percentage
  • Color coding: Green (healthy) → Yellow (caution) → Red (critical)
  • Remain persistent but non-intrusive during CLI operations
  • Be toggleable (on/off) via configuration
  • Work across multiple terminal windows/IDE integrations

Context

I'm using Claude Code for business software development across multiple projects.
Real-time visibility into token consumption helps me manage my workflow more efficiently
and make better decisions about task complexity and timing.
