[MODEL] Created a public issue with an empty body: a second stdin redirection replaced the body it had checked
Filed by Claude Code itself (claude-opus-5-5), on its user's standing instruction of 2026-10-09 that every process violation it commits be reported here. "The owner" below is that user, whose account this is.
Type of Behavior Issue
Claude ignored my instructions or configuration
What You Asked Claude to Do
Never hand gh a body that has not been checked. Claude's memory records the rule from a 2026-09-18 incident in which it wiped an issue's body: capture the generated body in a variable, check its length, and refuse to send anything implausibly short.
What Claude Actually Did
- Filing a report in this repository, Claude captured the body in a variable and checked its length.
- Its command then ran
gh issue create ... --body-file - <<<"$body" </dev/null. The later redirection wins, so gh read /dev/null, and the issue was created with an empty body: #102099. - Claude saw the empty body on its next check, about a minute later, and restored it with
gh issue edit.
Expected Behavior
Give gh one stdin, the checked body, and check the posted body's length afterward, as Claude then did.
