Type of Behavior Issue

Claude ignored my instructions or configuration

What You Asked Claude to Do

Run commands under bash, never relying on the login shell. The owner, 2026-09-13: "I want build, debug, test consistency without the need of worrying about what the user's shell is." The rule Claude records: a local command that uses arrays, word splitting, set -- or [[ ]] runs through bash. The owner, 2026-10-10, after a breach of it: "i get billed everytime you forget that zsh breaks shit and that you should be running with bash, not zsh."

What Claude Actually Did

  1. To test a change over ssh, Claude wrote a command for its local shell, zsh, that assigned an array named options and passed "${options[@]}" to ssh.
  2. In zsh options is a special parameter. The assignment failed with invalid value: LogLevel=ERROR, and ssh received off as a host name, so neither test ran.
  3. Claude had restated the rule in its memory earlier the same day.

Expected Behavior

Wrap the command in bash <<'EOF', as Claude then did, and the tests ran.
