[Bug] statusLine command in settings.json never invoked on macOS (CLI 2.1.296)

Bug Description
Title: statusLine in settings.json is never run and nothing renders (CLI 2.1.296, macOS)

What happened: statusLine is configured correctly in ~/.claude/settings.json (valid JSON). Claude Code never runs the command and shows nothing under the input box. The same happened with the claude-hud plugin
and with a minimal bash script. Expected: the status line appears after a restart and a new message.

Repro:

1. Claude Code 2.1.296, macOS (Darwin 25.4.0), terminal: <fill in: iTerm / Terminal / other>.
2. In ~/.claude/settings.json: "statusLine": {"type": "command", "command": "bash /Users/<user>/.claude/statusline-simple.sh"}.
3. The script reads JSON from stdin. Its first line is date >> ~/.claude/statusline-calls.log. Then it prints one line with model, folder, branch and context %.
4. Restart Claude Code and send a message.
5. Result: no line appears under the input, and ~/.claude/statusline-calls.log is never created. The command is not invoked at all.

Ruled out:

• Running the script manually with sample input prints correctly: [Sonnet 5.5] Stoiximan (feature/...) | ctx 12%.
• Same result with claude-hud 0.11.2, installed via /claude-hud:setup.
• No statusLine override in the project's .claude/settings.json or settings.local.json.
• CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR is unset.
• No managed settings (/Library/Application Support/ClaudeCode/ does not exist).
• "tui": "fullscreen" was removed and Claude Code restarted: same result.
• The statusline key in ~/.claude.json only holds usage stats (usageCount), not a setting.

Evidence: version 2.1.296, ~/.claude/settings.json (statusLine key), missing ~/.claude/statusline-calls.log.

Before sending, fill in the terminal and check whether /feedback asks you to strip paths or usernames.

The log line is still in your statusline-simple.sh. Remove date >> ... from it once the status line works.
