[FEATURE] Projects: let a Remote Control machine be the project environment, and honor its permission mode (bypass)
Problem
I use Claude Code mostly from the Claude mobile app, driving a Mac that runs claude remote-control --permission-mode bypassPermissions with defaultMode: bypassPermissions in its settings. Plain Code-tab sessions started on that machine work well: they see my files and never stop for permissions.
Projects break that setup:
- The project Environment picker only lists Anthropic cloud environments. A connected Remote Control machine can't be chosen (Project settings > Environment on Android shows only "Default" and "Default Cloud Environment"). So every new project thread starts in the cloud, where it can't see the machine the work lives on.
- Cloud project threads keep asking for permission. There's no project-level way to turn prompts off. Repo
.claude/settings.jsonallow rules only apply when the project has exactly one repo, and approvals are per thread. - "Work locally" threads ignore the machine's permission mode. Per the docs they request auto mode. I've deliberately disabled auto mode (
disableAutoMode: "disable") and run in bypass, so these threads fall back to prompting instead of using the mode the Remote Control host was started with.
The result is that Projects, which are meant for coordinating work from a phone, are the one surface where I'm constantly tapping permission prompts. They also can't default to the machine where the work actually is.
Requests
- Allow a connected Remote Control machine (and folder) to be selected as a project's environment, so every thread in the project runs there by default.
- Have local project threads use the permission mode the Remote Control host was launched with, or the machine's
permissions.defaultMode, includingbypassPermissions, instead of forcing auto. - Offer a project-level permission mode for cloud threads (including bypass, since the cloud VM is already sandboxed), so threads stop prompting regardless of how many repos the project has.
