Bug description

While doing routine maintenance on a device I own, over a local USB ADB connection, Claude Code hit a safeguard and then declined further requests for the rest of the session, including follow-up tasks unrelated to whatever triggered it. The session had to be abandoned.

The work was benign: debloating an end-of-life Amazon Fire tablet so it can be reused instead of thrown away.

Context

  • Device: Amazon Fire HD 8, 10th gen (2020), model KFONWI, Fire OS 7.3.2.2 (Android 9)
  • Connection: USB ADB from my Windows 11 PC. No network targets, no other devices or accounts involved.
  • Requested tasks:
  • disable Amazon bloatware, lock-screen ads, OTA updates and telemetry (pm disable-user, pm uninstall --user 0, cmd appops set)
  • install F-Droid and apps from it
  • set an alternative launcher

Observed behavior

  1. A safeguard triggered partway through the session.
  2. After that, Claude declined subsequent requests in the same session, including unrelated ones.
  3. The in-progress session context was lost. Device-side changes made before the trigger did persist.

Expected behavior

Owner-initiated maintenance of a locally attached personal device should proceed. If one specific step is judged risky, I'd expect that step to be declined with an explanation, while the rest of the session stays usable.

Additional data point

In a fresh session afterward (Opus, same machine, same tablet), the same category of work finished without any refusal: package restrictions via appops, installing NetGuard from F-Droid, diagnosing a system crash loop, and confirming that this model has no bootloader unlock path. That suggests the trigger is inconsistent rather than tied to the task itself.
