What were you trying to do?

Run my repository's project-management workflow from a Claude Code cloud session (Anthropic-hosted environment, Max plan). The workflow moves issues across a user-owned GitHub Projects (v2) board and merges PRs with gh.

What happened instead?

Every GraphQL request through the GitHub proxy gets HTTP 403: "GitHub GraphQL is not available from Claude Code sessions; use the REST API…". This includes gh auth status, which therefore reports "The token in GH_TOKEN is invalid" even though gh api user succeeds. That message is misleading.
The REST fallback for Projects v2 is refused too. gh api users/<me>/projectsV2/<n> (and /fields, /items) returns 403: "This GitHub API path is not available: sessions are bound to their configured repositories. Use repository-scoped endpoints (repos/{owner}/{repo}/...)."
A token I supply (GH_TOKEN, or a network secret on api.github.com) does not help: the proxy replaces it, and network secrets are never attached to GitHub requests.
So a cloud session has no way to read or update a GitHub Projects board, by GraphQL or by REST, with any credential. The docs confirm this ("Claude can't reach GitHub APIs that exist only in GraphQL, such as Projects v2").
