Bug Description
\Agents view: "Session can't start" when opening a session (EPERM, exit 1 before init) since auto-update to 2.1.296

What happens: I start a session with claude, press < to open the agents view, and select that same session. I get "Session can't start" with a stack trace. Running claude -r on the same session works fine.

Error from ~/.claude/daemon.log:
bg settled <id> (crashed): exit 1 before init — …code: "EPERM" at zm (/$bunfs/root/chunk-gyf58rwf.js:15:20320) at Oin (/$bunfs/root/chunk-zra6s2sk.js:12:377) at async PUs (/$bunfs/root/chunk-gvps5cb5.js:22:68) at async Bt (/$bunfs/root/cli:15:291) Bun v1.4.3 (macOS arm64)
The error message is cut off in the log, so the start of it isn't visible.

When it started: 3 minutes after Claude Code auto-updated (2026-10-10 17:42 UTC). Since then, almost every session the agents view tried to open crashed within milliseconds. That's 79+ crashes across two projects.

What I tried:

  • Restarted the daemon (claude daemon stop --any): still crashes.
  • Ran /login: still crashes.
  • Started a new session with claude --bg "...": works, and reopening it from the agents view also works.

Possible trigger: In ~/.claude/jobs/<id>/state.json, the crashing sessions save about 25 --allowed-tools mcp__computer-use__* flags plus --permission-mode auto as their launch settings. The sessions that worked had none.

Environment: Claude Code 2.1.296 (installed via Homebrew/npm at /opt/homebrew/lib/node_modules/@anthropic-ai/claude-code), macOS arm64.

Workaround: claude -r
