What You Asked Claude to Do
In a plan where two repository scripts were to embed a whole shell helper, kept identical by a generator and a drift check, the owner, asked where that generator should live, ruled: "Whoa! I think we need to abandon this work. the helper functions we need can be updated manually as needed."
What Claude Actually Did
- It read "this work" as the generator alone, rewrote the plan so the two scripts still embedded the whole helper, kept by hand, and asked the owner to confirm that reading in its own framing ("the generator only"), which the owner did.
- It went on with the embedding: tested two ways of carrying the whole helper against the linter, explained them to the owner, and set out to trace where the helper is deployed.
- The owner: "WE RULED THE EMBEDDING OUT", then "WE SAID THAT YOU WERE GOING TO DO THIS "MANUALLY", WHERE MANUALLY MEANS WE GET A 50-FIRST-DATES RENDERING OF WHAT IS HERE TODAY."
Expected Behavior
Read "the helper functions we need can be updated manually as needed" as it says: copies of the functions the scripts need, made by hand, and no whole helper anywhere; and ask with the ruling's own words, not a framing that keeps the work it abandoned.
