Problem

AskUserQuestion caps both arrays at 4: questions (maxItems: 4) and each question's options (maxItems: 4). Real workflows regularly need more than 4 decisions at once, so the model has to chain several dialogs of 4. Each chained call is a separate turn: a round trip, more context, and on Remote Control (phone) a new prompt to find and answer, while the user loses the overview of the whole batch.

Two earlier requests asked for this and were closed by the inactivity bot, then locked with "please open a new issue if this is still relevant": #61846 (raise the questions cap) and #81901 (configurable size for options). This is that new issue.

Our use case

A long-running session that acts as an operator for one person: it collects the decisions that other sessions park while he is away, and puts them to him when he is back. A morning batch is typically 8-12 independent decisions (approve a design, pick one of three options, accept a finished piece of work), plus the occasional choice with 5-6 real options (which profile, which tier). Today that is 3 dialogs in a row; this morning it was 10 questions in three dialogs (4 + 4 + 2).

Proposal

  • Raise or remove the cap on questions (e.g. 10, or unlimited with paging/tabs, which the UI already uses).
  • Raise the cap on options (or make it configurable), keeping "Other" as today.
  • If a hard limit must stay, expose it as a setting so workflows can choose.

Environment

Claude Code 2.1.295, Linux, terminal and Remote Control (iOS app).
