Engine 2.1.289, Code tab of the desktop app (macOS).
The type definitions say PromptHint and SessionMode are "Raised on the terminal and desktop surfaces only". In practice:
ui.renderforPromptHintis never called on the desktop surface (a probe that writes a file on every call never fires), so there is no way to draw in the empty space left of the footer, right after the + / mic / permission-mode controls.SessionModeis called, but a rewrite ofprops.modesis not drawn at all; only a hook that returns its own tree is drawn.- That tree is right-aligned next to the model name and cut with an ellipsis at a short fixed width, even in a full-screen window with plenty of free space in the footer.
Request: raise PromptHint on desktop (or add a left-aligned footer site), draw modes rewrites, and let the SessionMode tree use the free width of the footer.
Use case: showing the prompt-cache time left and the current project/branch in the footer, which is otherwise dead space.
